National ID card a disaster in the making

"One likely outcome of this DHS-proposed social segregation is that people presenting non-Real ID identification automatically will be presumed suspicious and perhaps subject to additional screening or surveillance to confirm their innocence at a bar, office building, airport or routine traffic stop. Such a situation would establish a new form of social segregation--an attempt to separate "us" from "them" in the age of counterterrorism and the new normal, where one is presumed suspicious until proven more suspicious."

Nationwide Financial Study Shows More Than 70 Percent of African-American Males Retire for Reasons Beyond Their Control

"According to a new study released by Nationwide Financial (NYSE: NFS), 73 percent of African-American males say they were driven into retirement by factors beyond their control, compared to 33 percent of the general population. This number represents retirees who say they had to retire when they did due to illness, disability, company closing, or for another reason beyond their control. From the same study, the percentage for African-American females was 28 percent, compared to 37 percent for females of the general population."

The Black Mexico Homepage

"The purpose of this website is to introduce readers to the culture and unique experience of Mexicans of African descent. If you are like most people, you probably have never heard of Afro-Mexicans and are completely unaware that they exist. If you fall into this category, this page will hopefully be quite a learning experience for you. As a cultural anthropologist, I am interested in how issues of race, color, and nationalism make the Afro-Mexican experience what it is, today, and hopefully, I can come to some general conclusions as to larger issues of race and ethnicity. Perhaps the question most central to my thinking about the topic could be expressed succinctly as: "How do black people in Mexico understand and live their black identity?" This question fascinates me primarily because issues of blackness and race are rarely talked about in Mexico, and the black population is extremely small there."

Illegal immigration hurts African Americans; Vanderbilt professor believes Congressional Black Caucus is ignoring the issue

"New research by a Vanderbilt professor of law and political science found that illegal immigration is hurting African Americans and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) is not doing enough about it.

"In a new book of essays called Debating Immigration, which Carol Swain edited and contributed to, Swain said that African Americans are losing more jobs to illegal immigrants than other racial or ethic groups, yet low income black workers don’t have political input in the debate."

Hillary: Repubricans are rike Godzirra

"For some reason, when Hillary Clinton speaks to black audiences, she insists on delivering her words with an odd 'Al Jolson meets Richard Petty' kind of accent, and breaking into an incredibly insulting political version of 'Mammy.' She's done this on at least three occasions, and has tried to till more plantations than Robert 'King' Carter himself.

"Last week, at a National Action Network meeting, with Al Sharpton right next to her, Hillary pulled out her fake accent once again, culminating in the assumption that all blacks are maids for white people.

"'We have ta reform our government. The abuses that have gone on in the last six years – I don' think we know the half of it yet. You know, when I walk into the Oval Office in January of 2009, I'm afraid I'm gonna lift up the rug and I'm goin' to see so much stuff uhn-der thar … You know, what is it about us always havin' to clean up after people? … But this is not just going to be pickin' up socks off the floor. This is going to be cleanin' up the government.'

"Ouch. If there's ever a movie made about Hillary's presidential run, it should be called 'White Candidates Can't Jump.'"

Jason Whitlock: Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton Are 'Terrorists'

"Jason Whitlock, the columnist for the Kansas City Star and AOL Sports, has been one of the most vocal opponents of the effort to get Don Imus taken off the air for calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos." Whitlock isn't defending what Imus said, but he is saying that in many respects, Imus's critics are worse than Imus.

"And in an appearance on Tucker Carlson's show on MSNBC, Whitlock lashed out at Imus's two harshest critics, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Whitlock said, 'I would say to CBS, don't negotiate with terrorists, because that's what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are.'"

Booker T. Washington said:

"There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs....There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public."
