How to Deal With Being Teased Because You Don't Act Black Enough

1. Think about why these kids are making fun of you. It is likely they are bored and think you are lower than them. Remember acting "black" is a stereotype. Just because the majority of a race acts a certain way doesn't mean they all do. Whites are stereotyped as snobbish and rude, but that is only true for some people. Some asian people are stereotyped to be intense-studying no-life nerds but some aren't. Some spanish people are though to be dirty and theives, but some arent. Some Jews are supposed to be penny-pinching and smart but some aren't.

2. Don't let people tell you how to act, but act how you want. The way you act is actually better for making friends. Using slang and acting like a "gangster" is not necessarily cool. Just be yourself.

3. Respond with confidence. Say something like, "Who do you think you are? You shouldn't be talking." It's not too mean, and not too kind. However, acting mean and sometimes fighting will get people off your back if needed. Remember to fight back if you get punched at. Don't be afraid to stand up to bullies. If you get beaten up, at least you have your dignity. However if there a guy with a weapon and you have a chance to walk away without serious injuries, don't fight.

4. Don't start to believe you should hang out with you own race, don't be afraid to befriend non-black people, but don't let that stop you from associating yourself with other black people. It shoudln't be about skin but about their personality.

5. Remember that you are probably going to be the more successful one in life, instead of rap "posers". Be happy that you have more potential.

6. Remember, while these idiots are acting like everyone else, you can be individual. Sure it might be hard now, but just think, one day you can pass these ideal onto your kids. And then the whole family can go out front and see your former tormentors cutting the grass and cleaning off your cars! Point being, most of the "cool" kids will end up working for you in real life, just wait it out.

Booker T. Washington said:

"There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs -- partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs....There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public."
